Project Summary: A Foundation for the Orphan's Future

The Orphan Sponsorship Program (كفالة الأيتام) is considered one of the greatest good deeds in Islam, guaranteeing the sponsor companionship with the Prophet (PBUH) in Paradise.

The program's primary objective is to fill the emotional and material void left by the loss of the father. Al-Hima Islamic Services manages this project across Sri Lanka, providing special, ongoing attention, training, and education.

Types of Aid and Comprehensive Support Provided

1. Educational and Development Support

  • Educational Care: Covering tuition fees, school supplies, and school uniforms.
  • Developmental Care: Training the orphan in various crafts, manual, or artistic skills to ensure self-sufficiency in the future.
  • Goal: To elevate the orphan educationally, developmentally, and culturally.

2. Livelihood and Financial Support

  • Direct Financial Aid: A monthly financial sum is provided to the orphan to assist with their basic needs. (Monthly Sponsorship Value: $20 USD).
  • Livelihood Care: Providing essential provisions like food and drink, clothing, Eid allowances, and personal expenses.

3. Health, Psychological, and Cultural Support

  • Health Care: Providing medical examinations, treatments, and necessary medications.
  • Psychological Support: Offering guidance and psychological counseling to alleviate their sense of isolation and provide stability for healthy upbringing.
  • Cultural Care: Conducting cultural and educational activities to reinforce sound Islamic values and build a balanced personality.

Sri Lanka is categorized as an underdeveloped nation marked by high poverty, with 35% of the population living in poverty and 42% subsisting on less than $2.00 daily. The devastating 30-year civil war (ended 2010) severely exacerbated this plight, causing mass displacement, the destruction of settlements, and widespread poverty within the Muslim communities of the Northern, North-Central, and Eastern provinces.

2. Introduction to Orphan Sponsorship (كفالة الأيتام)

Al Hima Islamic Services manages the nationwide Orphan Sponsorship project and operates the Dar Al-Yateem Orphanage in the Northern Province. The program ensures holistic orphan care through education, professional training, and personality development
